The world is collapsing around our ears, I turned up the radio…. I can’t hear it.

I’m not sure how this R.E.M. lyric relates to my move from Blogger to WordPress, but…

I have just moved into WordPress.  I hope YOU are reading this.  Leave feedback, suggest some good music

I’ve stuck a counter and a map of where visitors are from at the bottom of this blog. The count is now at 1, which of course is me. I just want to see if anyone does ever happen across this space and read my posts. The map I just thought was cool if it works. Of course I need visitors to verify it, so if you are here, come back, comment, ask questions, suggest topics. I can’t wait to get some recurring visitors and make a friend or two in the process.

My wife and I hired a babysitter for Saturday night and headed out on the town. We left about 6:50 and our first stop was to drop-off our recyclables at the recycling center. Pretty romantic beginning to the evening, huh? Then we stopped by the movie theater to get tickets for the 9:15 showing of Slumdog Millionaire. We didn’t want to get shut out by the crowd. Then, even with no reservations, got right into the restaurant of my wife’s choice and were eating within five minutes. Oh yeah, I should mention that the restaurant was Chipotle!

Then we ran to drop-off the first four episodes of Lost that we had recorded for a friend. They had just recently caught up on all four seasons. Afterward, we were proceeding to the theater when we noticed that a local super-huge grocery store called Jungle Jim’s had expanded even more since the last time we had been by. I saw that there is now a Petland attached and immediately remembered we needed to get dog food for our dog, Cream, tonight. So I turn in and run in and get the $50+ bag of Science Diet. Alicia stayed in the car and read “The Shack” while I was in the pet store. Now we are getting into this romance heavy-duty.

Finally we get to the theater, The Springdale Cinema de Lux. We go to get some snacks and as Alicia reaches for the nonpareils I have to stop her and say, “uh, you might want to get a different snack” since I had gotten her a box of nonpareils from Graeter’s for Valentine’s Day, which she wouldn’t know because we hadn’t bothered to exchanged cards yet (we did this later, shortly before bed). So we ended up with popcorn, M&M’s and a diet Mt. Dew. The movie as pretty good. Not my “Best Picture” of the 2008 movie season, but enjoyable (except for the part right before Jamal see’s the Raja). I cringed and laughed out loud at seeing what Jamal was willing to do to see the local movie star. I really enjoyed the performance of Anil Kapoor, who played the host of the millionaire show. After the movie we rushed home so the babysitter could get home and then proceeded to do something we never do. Sit and talked for about a half hour. This was truly the romantic part of the evening since we rarely do it!! It was a fun night.

This past Saturday night my wife and I attended, as her birthday present, the Crabb Family Reunion at the Ashland, KY Paramount Arts Center. We had a great time wna d enjoyed the great music. As a prelude to the Crabbs, a local gospel choir came on and sang a couple of songs. It was interesting to see Jason Crabb out front enjoying this very soulful music.

When the Crabbs initially came out, it was all of the siblings Jason, Aaaron, Adam, and Terah and the musicians from Crabb Revival. Unfortunately Kelly wasn’t at this reunion. We missed her. One of the songs they sang in this first set was “Friend Of God”. Aaron and Amanda performed after that. One they sang was “After the Rain” from their likewise titled new Cd. I didn’t feel like we were given much of a chance to get to know Amanda as she just basically sang backup for Aaron and never spoke. Next Crabb Revival, which is made up of Adam and Terah along with Amanda Smith and a band. They only sang one song from their newly annointed “Album of the Year” for 2008 by Gopel Music Channel. They opened with “You Amaze Me”, then Adam led them with his harmonica on “Amazing Grace” and they followed that up with Crabb favorite “Something’s Going On In The Graveyard”. Jason then came on to sing and the highlight for me was his rendition of “I’ll Take Jesus” which Kelly had always sung in the past versions I’ve heard. He killed it. It was awesome. He mentioned doing an album of old hymn favorites after he finishes his current album and I can’t wait to hear it. I want to hear more “I’ll Take Jesus” even though he brought it back about 3 times!!! After a brief intermission to take up a collection for a girls home, the siblings came back out to sing more. Jason closed with some stories and preaching.

After Christmas I began hearing a ping in the engine of my 2005 Vibe (with 35K miles but over the 3 year warranty) when I would start it. At first it would go away as I drove, but began to get louder and more constant. I thought it might be low on oil so I took it in for an oil change. The guy at the oil change said there was some sludge and I might want to get it changed again after 2500 miles or so. The noise went away for about a week but then came back. I took it to the Pontiac dealership to have it checked out. Their prognosis was I needed a new engine. Note that this car has never failed to start or had an engine light come on. They said the engine was full of sludge and could not be trusted to be fixed. For a second opinion I called the guy my father-in-law uses (and wanted me to take it to in the first place). He thinks we can save the engine, so I will be taking it to him Friday since he only works on cars on the weekends. The dealership didn’t give me too much of a hassle to take the car away an only charged me for removing the valve cover. My lesson is to never go to the dealership first and keep the reminder sticker for oil changes handy. Yes, I have admitted that it was probably my fault for stretching out the time and miles between oil changes too long.

Took Sam to see the Tale of Despereaux today after church. What a strange kid’s flick. Way above Sam’s head, but he didn’t get restless and paid attention through the whole thing so it worked out ok. I’m still not sure how banishing rats makes it stop raining. The movie was Sam’s reward for completing 20 chores during the week. These are comprised of brushing his teeth twice a day, getting dressed, picking up his toys, and staying in bed. He got a chart at Christmas to help keep track of these.

Yesterday my partner and I had a great comeback in a interclub tennis match. Our rules state that after an hour and fifty minutes if one team is ahead by two games, then they win the set. If they are only ahead by one, they play the next game and the set is either over or they play a tiebreaker. Well, we were down 4-2 with 10 minutes to go so we felt like we needed to win the rest of the games to have a chance. We quickly held our serve to make it 4-3 with six minutes to go. But then we lost four straight points to go down 5-3. But wait, there were still two minutes to go so we can start a new game. We quickly held our serve to make it 5-4 and even though time was up we were within a game so we had to play one more. During this game I hit two of the most crazy lucky shots I have ever hit. Anyway, we broke their better server and forced a tiebreaker. We won the first three points of the best of 9 tiebreak and went on to win 5-1. Incredible comeback. Unfortunately we were the only ones on our four match team to win.

Boy, this blog is not going to get too popular if I only post once every 18 to 24 months, huh. I got back on when I saw that Ernie Haase’s blog is on the same system as mine. Wow, maybe I should update mine… OK…. here goes..

Sam is now almost exactly 3 1/2 and Tanner will be 2 on 2/28! Wow how time flies. They are such a blessing. But that being said….geez o peez, are kids hard or what? I never would have dreamed it would be like this. Everyone always told me “you’ll make such a great dad” because I was always a big kid myself and got along so good with children. Well, I’m here to tell you that those qualities that made people say that are polar opposites from the qualities that actually make me a great dad.

Patience, patience and more patience are required! I had non of those three coming into fatherhood, but with the good Lord’s help, I’m coming along.

I must also say, something that I realize now that I had never thought of before becoming a father, was what God’s love for us must be like (I’m getting teary-eyed as I type this). Wow, how much He knows that we don’t even understand. I love you Lord.

Hey, I’m really going to try to post more often, that will be my belated New Year’s resolution.

Found out yesterday that baby #2 will be another boy! That’s good news for Sam. He’ll have a brother to bond with and teach everything he has learned to. We’re all happy & excited.

Just found out #2 is on the way. Am I ready for that? No way!!! Am I happy about it? Definately!!!!!!
